PEACE TO RULE

Not too long ago, while reading Colossians 3:15, I had one of those experiences where the words lept out and were seen in a fresh light. “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.” This is more than a one time experience of feeling peaceful in a trial or adverse circumstance. This verse seems to speak of something more permanent. Something that rules in the character of the new man in Christ. The NLT says “…you are called to live in peace”. We are called to live with this peace.

Is this possible in this day and age? Of course, with God all things are possible. Thank God we have a helper, the Holy Spirit, who leads us, guides us, and brings to remembrance scriptures to stand on.

Philippians 4:6-7, seems to be the workhorse scripture to pray, memorize, stand on and believe. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

How much peace to you really have overall in your life? What does your peace meter look like? The key word in the Philippians scripture is “let”. Let our helper the Holy Spirit, help us let go of what we need to let go of. Let go of self effort, anxiety, and fear and let Him help us come to a place of trust.

Isaiah 26:3-4, are good reminders and verses to stand on in our coming into a reality of a ruling peace. “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength.”

II Thessalonians 3:16, “Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.”
